Through my research I have only begun to uncover the possibilities and advantages of working with traditional and digital media. My intention in doing so is to show that digital media is not completely separate from traditional media, and the two can be integrated. There are hundreds if not thousands of graphics programs available to artists and tools to simulate working with real traditional media. Digital media can be combined with traditional media to form a piece. A traditional piece can also utilize digital techniques in the preliminary and planning stages. Digital media may prove more efficient because of the ability to easily duplicate and undo. It saves time and even can defy it by allowing the artist to travel back. This not only has technical advantages but may also have conceptual advantages. The computer's ability to challenge principals of nature, among other things, might aid an artist conceptually. The use of digital media may be more suitable for the artist's concept than working traditionally. Digital work is not limited to a 2D surface but can also appear in 3D form. There are programs and tools capable of rendering and producing an object in 3D. With all it has to offer, the computer can become an integral part of an artist's studio.
